The Phenomenon of Hypnosis
Hypnosis has been the subject of misunderstanding since its inception. It has
been discredited and vilified by those who either misunderstood the concept or who were unable to induce trance in
their clients (e.g. Freud). Hollywood has done little to improve the image of hypnosis, treating us to the clichéd
'swinging watch' induction a little too often. No wonder many people see hypnosis as some kind of new age mumbo
jumbo that allows a person to take complete control over the mind of another to make them cluck like a chicken,
rather than as a useful mind tool that can be used to improve lives exponentially!

Before we continue, I need you to pay close attention to what you are about to
read:
Hypnosis cannot perform miracles, it cannot
increase the size of a woman's breasts or cure cancer or do any of the other outrageous things that may be claimed
by the proponents of some ridiculous scam.
What it can do, is to assist you with making major
changes in your beliefs and behaviour which will impact on your
life massively and allow you to achieve anything you have
dreamed of. Let's use this example: Have you ever managed to acquire a new habit after weeks or
months of strict focus and discipline? Perhaps you managed to start every day with a morning run and consistently
did this for several weeks or months or even longer. How much less effort did it require to get up at 5 in the
morning on the 7th week, compared to the 1st? It was much easier right? The reason for this is that the behaviour
of rising early to perform your exercise session for the day became a habit!
Habits are what determine how your and my life
will play out over the coming years. It will determine what position we are in financially, physically and
emotionally. It will determine the state of our
relationships, our environment and even how
happy or unhappy we are! Whenever we repeat a behaviour
regularly, brain pathways are formed that allow us to adapt and master the behavior to make it easier to perform.
Because of this, our mind accepts the fact that the behaviour is a routine part of our day that has to be carried
out and our resistance to performing the act reduces until it fades away completely. At this point, we act out our
habits almost effortlessly, either in a positive way that improves our lives, or negatively by which we stagnate
into a life of mediocrity and dissatisfaction.
Hypnosis is the single most useful and important
tool for inculcating good habits and
eradicating bad habits into our daily routine. Imagine if you had acquired the habit of saving 10% of your income from the first day you started working? What if
you had made a lifelong commitment to exercising every day since
the age of 18 and eating only foods that make you feel younger and
stronger and fed your body and mind with the nutrients they needed? Do you think your life
would be a million times better than it is right now? Would the fact that the results of your behaviour came from
good habits detract from your achievement at all?
By using mind tools such as hypnosis, you can live the life you have always
dreamed of, and achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
In the following sections, we are going to look at what hypnosis is, what hypnosis feels
like, how hypnosis works and what it can do for you.
