What is the induction?
This is where the fun begins! The induction is the portal to a
different level of awareness, a portal that allows you to access a different part of your mind and
unlock your true
potential. It is the start of the journey to self discovery, peacefulness and relaxation. Let's use
the following analogy:
The induction would be similar to entering the entrance hall of a house. You are
just inside the structure, but there is a vast area still to be explored. This is the first step that you take in
the journey of inner exploration and, done correctly, makes the rest of the process easier and more
enjoyable.
Induction styles vary greatly and their effectiveness depends on the individual.
For this reason, it is advisable to try different induction types until you find an approach that gives you the
best results.
What does it do?
Despite their different approaches, all inductions have the aim of
relaxing your body and
mind, focusing
your attention inwards, moving it away from the external world
to allow for the awareness of
every sensation and gently lulling you into a trance
state.
Different induction
approaches
An induction can follow either a commanding or coaxing approach. Individuals
tend to respond better to one of these approaches depending on their attitudes and beliefs regarding
authority. People who have an inherent dislike of being told what to do would probably respond better
to a coaxing induction while less assertive people may get better results from the commanding induction.
Forms of Induction
The most common forms of induction involve a fixation of attention or
progressive relaxation
technique. In addition, there is also the rapid induction which
rapidly induces hypnosis and the indirect induction which makes use of metaphors and avoids any directives.
Practice, practice, practice
The effectiveness of the induction method you choose will be greatly enhanced the more you
practice it. Every repetition primes your mind to respond better and faster than the previous time, allowing you to
sink faster and deeper into that relaxed state that needs to be achieved. For this reason, it is a good idea to
set specific times on each
day that you will devote to practicing this new skill. The more you practice, the better you will
become at it and the more dramatic
your results will be.
The next step looks at deepening techniques to increase your responsiveness
to suggestions.
