Returning to normal awareness

This part of the process signals our return to normal awareness and needs to be a gentle reintroduction to the world around us rather than an abrupt shock. It should lead you slowly back to reality with increasing levels of awareness and calm. The method most often used is a count from one to ten with gentle suggestions that you are feeling more awake and more alert with each count.

Here is an example:

"Now, having enjoyed your special time of relaxation, you are ready to return to the world with calm confidence that you can make the changes you desire. As you count from one to ten, you will begin to become more aware of your surroundings. With each number, you will feel more alert and relaxed, ready to return completely refreshed. Let us begin. One...two...Beginning to return now...three...feeling slightly more alert...four...coming up slowly feeling more refreshed...five...feeling happy and calm...six...seven...feeling more awake....eight...nine...opening your eyes coming all the way back to full awareness...feeling great...ten!"
